Twittering for profit?
In the two years since it was formed Twitter has quickly become the most discussed social application. Membership is growing by tens of thousands per day and recent predictions are that it will have over ten million members by the end of 2009. But why is it growing so fast? Nowhere else can Joe Blogs find out what his favourite stars had for their supper, not without a hefty court injunction being issued anyway. People who would never consider other social-networks are joining Twitter just for these reasons and, in a large number of cases, this is due to celebrities promoting their own Twitter accounts and Twitter being mentioned during television programs, for example the BBC recently used Twitter to promote it’s Panorama programme. But it’s this global appeal that also means that companies can reach out world-wide and promote their product for very little outlay. Large companies are starting to realise this and companies such as Starbucks and Vodafone have already run promotions via Twitter which generated a lot of re-tweeting (that is users forwarding the promotion messages to each other). This has proven that Twitter promotions can have a snowball effect and grow well beyond the original targeted audience.
Cashing in on this phenomenon is something that can be achieved with a minimum of effort using various Twitter applications. Self-promotion done the right way is a very easy and efficient way of spreading the word about a product or idea. It’s only a matter of time before companies start looking for Twitter users that have a large number of followers in order to use them to get their promotions out into the Twitterverse as quickly as possible. Users who start building their number of followers now could be sitting on a gold mine in the future. It’s only a matter of time before following your favourite brand is as common as following your favourite celebrity or following your real-life friends.
Bethany had been hanging around on various Social network sites before realising that she could make money with Twitter , after a lot of searching round she found that Twitter apps was the best site to do this.
