Understanding appetite, hunger… and cravings

Why is it you fancy a pudding even when you are full after your main course? Itâs all about appetite as opposed to hunger. And the key to taking charge of your food consumption and mastering your cravings is knowing the difference between the two.HungerThis is our basic, very physical need for food. It happens around three to four hours after eating our last meal once our stomachs have emptied. The strong muscular walls of the stomach begin to contract and grind, sending messages through nerves and hormones to our brains, telling us that it is time to eat again. Meanwhile, dipping levels of sugar in our blood send similar signals to âIâm hungryâ areas in our brains. Once we have started eating, if we listen to our bodies, more messages are sent so that we know when we have had enough and itâs time to stop.

Appetite This is all about our desire for food triggered by anything from the thought, smell and sight of it. We can have an appetite for something even when physically full â hence desiring the pudding after a main course. The list of things that stimulate, tempt and perpetuate our appetite are highly personal and almost endless, and itâs easy to see how we can mix them up with genuine cues of physical hunger. Telling them apartThis is important when trying to control when and how much you eat. Start practicing on yourself to separate out feelings of hunger from appetite. For instance, make yourself wait for a good four hours after eating, so that you really know how it feels for your stomach to grumble and rumble with true hunger. Next, make a mental note (or even jot down) the things that, during this time, made you feel tempted to eat. Try to pin point what it was that bought them to mind and stimulated this desire. Observe how long the desire to eat them carried on for, and how many minutes it took for this wave of temptation to pass. It is often just a few minutes. Repeat this between breakfast and lunch, and lunch and dinner, and then tot up what you have saved yourself from eating over the day just by riding out the waves of appetite.

Beware of variety Another big trigger for the temptation to eat more is variety. Tests have shown that when you give people one flavour of yoghurt, offering them the same flavour will not be tempting. Offer them a different flavour, however, and suddenly, they can find room for it. Forewarned is forearmed, and often just having this kind of knowledge is sufficient to help you gain some control over your appetite.

Foods that help you feel full You can also get a lot of help by choosing the kinds of foods that are known to be particularly physically satiating. Protein Foods rich in protein, such as lean red meat, chicken, eggs and fish, help to switch off hunger signals in our brains particularly quickly. Researchers are not quite sure why, but having some protein at every meal and eating it first seems to help you to naturally blunt your appetite.Low GI carbohydratesSlowly digested carbohydrate foods â such as porridge, sugar free muesli, rye, granary and pitta bread, tortilla wraps, sweet potatoes, pasta and most vegetables and fruits â play a similar role by slowly and steadily releasing sugar into our blood for several hours after eating. Email Marketing – Is It Part of Your Marketing Strategy?

There are many voices out there today, each one clambering for our attention. In our home based business, we get bombarded daily with offers that we are told we just canât refuse! Each one offers their best marketing strategy and/or courses, which if you will just simply buy it; it would literally set you financially free! Ever been there?

Well, thatâs not what Iâm going to do here!! Weâre going to be talking about one subject: Email Marketing and email marketing strategies. Clearly there are more marketing strategies than email marketing. The fact is, there are many different marketing strategies out there, and we have many choices, but you have to decide which ones you want to implement. A strategy that has worked well for me and other internet marketers is to start with two, maybe 3 marketing strategies. Get very familiar with those, and make sure they are working for you. Donât let anything or anyone sidetrack you. Stick to your guns. Once you have those mastered, move on to the next 2 or 3, but donât abandon the original 2 or 3.

There is a myth floating around out there that I want to address right now, and that is this: There is a common misconception by many people nowadays that the internet is too competitive, and that a newbie [slang word for a newcomer to the internet] cannot possibly hope to succeed running against the big dogs, or the more seasoned internet marketers.

Nothing could be further from the truth! There are many ways of making money online and so many opportunities and niches to take advantage of. And the bottom line is this: there are constantly new people coming online, and new people looking for business opportunities. The key is to find something you are interested in, have a passion about, and begin to market in that niche.

This is not about niche marketing, and at this juncture Iâm not going into how to find your niche and finding the right keywords to market your niche or product. There are plenty of articles and blogs out there about that.

You can find plenty of articles and blogs about all the different marketing strategies, but what Iâm going to focus on here is email marketing. Email marketing is a key part of any marketing plan, but where that falls in priority for you is totally dependant on what your marketing strategies might be.

Iâm going to assume that you already have your list [if you donât contact me, and I will help you with that, or point you in the right direction]. Email marketing lists are important, but maintaining them and keeping them up to date is even more important.

In email marketing, your reputation is important, more so online than offline. Both are important, but most of us reading this are trying to build a home based business through an online presence. We build and develop our online reputation through social media engagements, blog posts, press releases, articles, forums, videos and etc. Our reputation actually is created by our readers, and if we continue to supply them with valuable content, our reputation grows.

When it comes to building our reputation in social media, it is important to not bombard your friends and followers with just links to your site. Several times throughout the day is okay, but provide valuable content, such as positive quotes, links to videos that can help build their business, etc. A whole article could be written just on this subject, and many have been written.

Our online reputation is what makes our email deliverable! Thatâs right; our reputation is what helps get our emails opened. If our reputation has become tarnished because of some negative posting on a forum or a negative blog, it will definitely affect email deliverability. If people on our list view us negatively, they tend to blacklist us, and now the email goes into the spam box instead of the inbox. That will have a direct impact on your bottom line.

Here are 7 tips that will help get your emails delivered.

Tip#1: Manage and Maintain Your Online (and Overall) Reputation

a)Â Canât say enough about this â it is completely within your control!

Tip#2: Get Opt-In Permission

a)Â Â Â Â You have to provide options to your subscribers to allow them to change their subscriber preferences. Subscribers have to have the option somewhere in your email to opt-out if they so choose and it should be plainly visible.

Tip#3: Recipients Expect Frequent and Valuable Content

a)Â Â Â Â I get some emails on a daily basis, and one even sends between four and six per day. However, I always read them, because invariably they provide good and valuable content. Actually, two or three times a week is sufficient, and there is even some thought out there that once a week is enough. It really depends on your list and your product.

b)Â Â Â Â The bottom line â whatever your frequency, it has to contain relevant and valuable content. If not, they will opt-out or drop it into the spam folder!

Tip#4: Use a Recognizable âFromâ Address

a)Â Â Â Â Iâve received email from online marketers where it was kind of obscure as to where the email was coming from. There are plenty of email providers out there (see list above) so there is no excuse to not have a recognizable âfromâ address.

b)Â Â Â Â Make sure your subscribers have a way to reach you. If your âfromâ address in your email is not a reachable address, provide one somewhere in your email. I prefer to provide mine in the signature of my email.

Tip#5: Design the Header of Your Email to Deliver Your Message

a)Â Â Â Â This is the first thing they see when they open their mailbox! If you know anything about copywriting, you know that the header is the most important item to getting your email opened and read. This can be the difference between a successful or unsuccessful email campaigns.

b)Â Â Â Â Letâs say you arenât good at writing headlines â there are plenty of sources out there where you can find someone that is. Go to elance.com, post what you want done and youâll find someone that can do it for you. Just be sure to check them out thoroughly and get some good verifiable references. For as little as $200 you can get someone to write you a great email campaign with a great header.

Tip#6: Spam â Who Defines It

a)Â Â Â Â Does it really matter who defines spam? Absolutely!! What comes to mind when you think of spam? Most times the response I get is âItâs sending unsolicited emails.â Really, is that it???!!! If thatâs what comes to mind, then you definitely need to familiarize yourself with what spam really is!! It can mean the difference between getting your email opened (delivered) or not.

b)Â Â Â Â CAN-SPAM laws were created and enforced by the FTC [Federal Trade Commission]. What is CAN-SPAM? The acronym CAN-SPAM derives from the bill’s full name: Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing Act of 2003.

c)Â Â Â Â ISP (Internet Service Providers), as well as the FTC have a large part in determining what is or is not spam. ISPs do not rely on CAN-SPAM to define spam. Their contention is that spam is first and foremost defined and determined by the user. If, for example, a user determines the email is spam by putting it in their spam folder, or in their blocked senders list, or just simply not opening it, then the ISPs consider it spam â whether or not it adheres to each and every rule of CAN-SPAM

d) Â Â Stay current on the CAN-SPAM rules and make sure that every email campaign complies and adheres to those rules. Be sure that your email recipients can opt-out easily. Remind your email recipients of the email address they should use to request information or if they have any questions.

Tip#7: Relevance and Continuity

a)Â Â Â Â When the potential client and/or email recipient clicks on your PPC ad or a link that you provided in your email, it is imperative that what you had in your email and/or ad is where the link goes to. For example, if you are advertising something about weight loss, make sure that when they get to your site, you are actually promoting weight loss, and not something irrelevant â like, letâs say skiing!! Rememberâ¦.itâs your reputation. If it doesnât connect or is irrelevant, it could make the customer want to consider future ads irrelevant and they will avoid clicking on them.

b)Â Â Â Â When that happens too often, search engine algorithms will then label your ads as irrelevant, suppressing the Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and PPC conversions. SEM is only relevant if you have a website

The last thing I want to cover (and certainly not the least) is search engine marketing. Search engine marketing can and does have a great impact on your online reputation, i.e., your email deliverability. What is search engine marketing? Glad you asked!! Search engine marketing is the performance of marketing or advertising your web site through search engines, like Google, Yahoo or Bing. Search engine marketing (SEM) may consist of one or more of the following components:

So is Search Engine Marketing Important?

It really depends on whether you decide to make search engine marketing a part of your marketing and advertising strategy. If you don’t have a Web site or ever plan to have one for your business, you certainly wouldn’t need search engine marketing. But in today’s business climate, itâs hard to imagine anyone not wanting or having a website, as nearly all business are expected to have a website and most do.

Search engine marketing is used as a means to get traffic to your website. This again can be done through your emails with links to your website, or through SEO, PPC, or PFI. This then should ideally lead to getting new customers and adding to your home business revenues.

When compared to other means of advertising and marketing, search engine marketing can be very cost effective. For instance, you could implement someÂ SEO techniques on your own. Organic search rankings are free, so if you can move yourself up in the rankings, your traffic should increase, which, in turn, should increase your home business revenues.

In the same way,Â PPC can be very cost effective. Since you can set limits on how much you’ll pay per click and how much you’ll pay per day. In closing, it is vital to your success to keep your lists up-to-date so that you can optimize your response rates, your conversions, and your overall email campaign performance. With all the spammers and fraudulent email senders out there, it has created a lot of mistrust. So I canât stress enough how important it is to consistently update your email list, review your list often to establish which email recipients havenât opened or clicked through for the last six months. Make them another compelling offer, and if they still donât open them, you might want to try one more time, but then take them off your list.

Desire by itself will not ensure that we life a life by our design, to win the money game or become wealthy but it is an important ingredient and an essential step for moving in that direction. If you want to earn six figure incomes, residual incomes or have multiple streams of income, then an unstoppable desire to succeed is essential. A strong desire to succeed in building a wealthy home business dispels any thought of ever quitting as an option. If you want anything badly enough you will find a way or make one, in order to be successful, no matter what the price or sacrifice required. Once you have the desire to become successful you must persevere and remain steadfast on your task. This is keen to note because some people seem to “born tired” and are naturally lazy possessing no self-reliance or perseverance. Your desire is the fire that heats you up to perform, to excel. P.T. Barnum, in the book The Art of Money Getting, stated that “If you hesitate, some bolder hand will stretch out before you and get the prize”. The proverb of Solomon succinctly puts it like this: “He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand; but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.” One simple exercise that I’ve found useful in fuelling my desires constantly to be successful in building a wealthy home business which I’ll share with you now is:

1) On a piece if paper or word pad write down all the reasons why do you want to achieve your goal.

2) List all the benefits you can gain if your goal were achieved, starting with the word “I”. For example; “I am a successful business man”. “I am building strong family ties at home”. “I am a successful internet marketer”. “I provide for all my families need”. The more clearly stated reasons you have, the stronger will be your desire to be successful.

3) Practice to reading your list of benefits every morning.This affirmative action triggers your sub-conscious to act as though you have already achieved your goals, since your sub-conscious mind doesn’t distinguish between realities. It places your goals or wish list into the present and not something to be achieved at some later time. This daily affirmation keep you connected with your goal during the day, making you more motivated and inspired.

Attitude

Maintaining a positive mental attitude is very important in the pursuance of achieving your objective to build a business from home and gain the wealth you need to live the life that you always wanted. If you maintain positive attitude no matter what the situation is success will come to you automatically.

Aspiring entrepreneurs, without proper research and guidance, fall victims in making the mistake of investing in the wrong type of business. It is therefore critical to choose a business model that’s appropriate to your interests and even your personality.

Thousands of business opportunities out there vying for your attention; a Google search will find over 4 million business opportunities advertised. So, how do you know which one is right for you? Although each business model has its own distinct structure and way of being conducted, some of the most commonly chosen models are:

1) Brick and Mortar:

This is your traditional type business where your business activities are conducted in a separate space like say, a shop, boutique or a plant depending on the nature of your business.

2) Home-based:

To be successful, it is important to be able to manage your time effectively. Time management means not allowing distractions. When you don’t manage your time effectively:

• Work suffers. Lack of effective time management means hours and hours spent on tasks that are not important leaving only a little bit of time for the projects that really do affect your bottom line. Email or social networking is a prime example. It’s too easy to spend an entire morning Twittering, updating your Facebook or linked in page or answering emails.

Presidential Assassinations

Okay, so sooner or later on every show about the New World Order the subject of Assassinations comes into play. Now I have never been one to be too interested in the finer details of the JFK assassination; I don’t really care if there was one shooter, two shooters, a knoll that was grassy or not so grassy, etc.

However, I am quite interested on a more “macro” level and looking at not just the assassination of JFK, but at all of the Presidential assassinations to see if there is a common thread. To that end some basic details need to be reviewed. Lincoln First there have been four successful Presidential assassinations, at least three of which were ardent opponents to the central banking monopoly of power. Starting with Abraham Lincoln, the first successful Presidential assassination, we see that the bankers and the President were diametrically opposed. Lincoln did serve the interest of the bankers in bringing the country into Civil War (both sides of which the banks financed). While engaging in the war Lincoln made two very significant changes in monetary policy, both were done to raise money for the civil war. The first measure was the signing of the National Banking Act.

This act tied the issuing of Bank Notes to government debt. In other words, it allowed National banks (and all but forbade smaller State chartered banks) to issue bank notes, or paper promises to provide real money, which circulated as currency. The reason this war time measure was taken was because the National bank reserves now had to be in the form of government bonds (debt). This is one of the main factors that funded the Civil War. The more money the National Banks created and used to buy government bonds, the more the government was going into debt to the bankers.

The second measure, which was much less popular with the bankers, was the issuance of “greenbacks” from the Treasury. These greenbacks, or United States Notes, were actually issued by the government whereas today there are “Federal Reserve Notes” which are issued by the Federal Reserve, a corporation whose stock is owned by powerful multi-national banks. Greenbacks were the first non-debt based national currency since the Revolutionary War. This meant that when the government authorized and printed these greenbacks they could spend them into the economy (largely for the war effort) and there was no debt to pay back left in their wake. In most other cases the government needs to “borrow” new money that is created by bankers and pay the bankers back plus interest.

So Lincoln’s greenbacks were in direct competition with the National Bank notes. The more the government printed and used the greenbacks (US Notes) the less they were dependent on selling debt to the bankers in exchange for money (National Bank Notes) they created. Since the government’s war-time need for money was so huge the bankers didn’t mind too much sharing the market with the greenbacks. After the civil war ended, when the governments demand for cash was drastically reduced, the bankers wanted to kill the issuance of greenbacks so that any deficit spending of the government would mean the government, or by extension the general public, would become more and more indebted to the bankers. While they did successfully stall any further issuance of greenbacks, Lincoln had big plans for the post-Civil War Reconstruction period. Notice the following quote from Lincoln taken from Senate document 23, page 91 from 1865:

Not exactly music to the ears of the bankers who were planning to have the power to issue all the currency in the form of national bank notes that were built on government debt. They would one day have their wish as is the case today when none of the money in your wallet says “United States Note” instead it is all issued by the authority of the “Federal Reserve” which is a privately owned bank under very limited government regulation. However, this dream may never had been able to be realized if Lincoln had been able to expand the US Notes to the point where they would have satisfied the nations need for currency and the public would have enjoyed the benefits of having money provided without the government going into debt in the process (as is the case today).

So, what did the bankers do about it? Well, I must pause a moment just to say that the implication that is about to follow is somewhat speculative. In life there is always a difference between what you believe and what you can prove definitively, I just like to make it clear when I am presenting a belief. However, in the context of the other assassinations you will see that this is not such an unreasonable belief. I am of course referring to the fact that 5 days after General Lee surrendered, officially ending the war and opening the way for Lincoln to phase out National Bank Notes in favor of United States Notes, he was shot dead. Again, all of the above is 100% fact, the only speculative portion being the implication that the bankers arranged the assassination. Look, of course Booth was the one who shot him and he was a Confederate that wanted to be immortalized in history. The stories we are taught in school about these events are “true” but are they the whole truth? Was he helped along, given access and other help to complete the difficult act of assassinating a world leader? In Latin there is an expression that is used to cut right to the heart of a matter: Cui Bono, which means “to whose benefit?”. I leave you with the facts above showing how the ones who had the most to gain from Lincolns death were the central (or national) bankers that wanted to keep control of the power to issue money. In this context, notice what a contemporary had to say about Lincoln’s assassination, namely the statesman of Germany, Otto Von Bismark:

Unfortunately, this would not be the only President he would live to see assassinated. It is interesting how he puts the onus on foreign bankers that had been seeking to gain control of the issuance of money in the U.S. since its independence from Great Britian. What’s interesting is that often times xenophobia is blamed for any mention of “international bankers” but Bismark also being foreign to the United States was not speaking out of xenophobia but was just plainly explaining the state of affairs that was understood then but which has been obscured in modern history books and in the media. Garfield James A. Garfield was not a friend of the central bankers. Unfortunately for the bankers they didn’t know this until after he was inaugurated. Notice the speech he gave shortly after his rise to the office of President:

To give some context to the above statement, Garfield became in favor of forcing banks to provide the gold they claimed to have when customers came in to redeem their Bank Notes or withdraw their demand deposits. In the National Banking Act we discussed there were several loop holes where banks could avoid having to fork up the real money the certificates claimed to represent. For banks this meant that their ability to, not just loan out their money but to create new money that had no gold to back it would be greatly reduced. In a sense, depositors would have a means of keeping a bank “honest” if Garfield had his way. Now before his election the bankers may have thought he would be useful since he did oppose silver which the banks hated because again it competed with their National Bank notes. However, the reason Garfield opposed silver was because it had been overvalued as compared to gold but it became clear that he would be open to silver money if the exchange of Gold to Silver would be more equitable. Anyway, to get back to the main point here, we can plainly see that President Garfield was not happy with the fact that a few powerful bankers had the power to control the volume of money in circulation, which he rightly equated with them being the unknown masters of society. A few weeks after he is recorded as making that daring attack on the banking elite, he was shot by his eventual assassin. I say eventual because he did not die on the spot. It was a slow death that was hastened by his doctors that ruptured his liver while apparently attempting to remove a bullet. Thomas Edison even tried to help with this difficult bullet inventing a metal detector to find it, but to no avail. What was the result? Ten years later the letter below was issued by the American Bankers Association in 1881. While reading the quote keep in mind that they are talking about what they will do three full years in advance:

So the letter, while sounding sinister also sounds like they will just be enforcing their legal options – which is true. However, if Garfield had lived he would have drastically limited the power of the banks, or at least attempted to by limiting their ability for the banks to create money out of thin air. With the laws remaining in their favor it made the above letter more than idle words. It may be wise to reflect on these statements made by Lincoln and Garfield and ask yourself this question: when was the last time you heard a President ardently denounce the banking system (not just bonuses to banking CEO’s which ironically could be considered one of the more legitimate aspects of banking by comparison)? Well, while you are thinking of the answer we will just tell you to make it easier: John F. Kennedy. John F. Kennedy Now, historically speaking, the Kennedy family was involved in many shady business dealings that are well documented and don’t need to be harped on here. My point in bringing it up is not to brand the Kennedy family as corrupt boot-legging Nazi-collaborators (although there is evidence to that effect) but to point out that the banking establishment had reason to believe that JFK would have been easy to manipulate. Also, he expressed in his campaign support for various spending programs that had the potential to put the government in greater debt to the banks by running deficits.

However, shortly after JFK became President they were abruptly woken up by the fact that JFK was not afraid to discuss some touchy topics. Indulge me a bit in the following simplified timeline: January 20th, 1961 – JFK enters office as the President of the United States. Three months later he gives what is often referred to as the “Secret Societies” speech to the American Newspaper Publishers Association. In this speech he says that America had been “inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and secret proceedings.” He then went on to describe what can only be a description of the international banking elite when he said “we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence–on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations. Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed.” Some may say he was simply referring to the soviet empire, but yet if so there would be no reason to leave out any reference to the Russians. Also the connection to secret societies would have no relevance in the context of the Cold War. Not too say that they didn’t play a part in this “monolithic conspiracy” of which he was referring. We could speculate all day about the finer details but what is of much greater use is to examine the public record. There were a few significant steps that Kennedy was taking that would have been hubris in the banking community. First, on October 11, 1963, Kennedy signed NSAM 263, initiating a withdrawal of 1,000 troops (roughly 5 – 10%) from the American presence in Vietnam. Other documents, including planning documents from the spring of 1963, show that this was the first step in a planned complete withdrawal. There is always some question with regard to government documents because often times there are several contradictory plans that are being championed by different interests in an administration.

What is known for a certainty is that the bankers, who had financed both sides of every war since the days of Napoleon, made major profits financing the war. In recent history, the banks are set up in multiple ways to profit from war. The most direct way is by ownership in most of the defense companies. Every company, individual and even government are in debt to the banks paying vast sums of interest to them annually which they shrewdly use to increase their ownership of not only defense companies but the Fortune 500 which they own directly and indirectly via holdings of the Federal Reserve. Another way the bankers, who own and control the Federal Reserve Corporation, make out in war time is by the debt built up by the Government which is justified as needed to win the war. Remember when the Government goes into deficit territory it makes up the budget difference by going to the federal reserve and giving them an IOU (or treasury bond) in exchange for newly created money. What is also a matter of public record is what happened in Vietnam after JFK was assassinated; President Johnson drastically escalated the logistics police action into an all out war. I bring up Vietnam first because in actuality there was something much more threatening JFK had done to the banking elite. Wars come and go, but one thing the bankers don’t ever want to lose is their authority to create money. Now JFK wasn’t about to take that power away from banks, but he did take an enormously significant step in that direction with the signing of Executive Order 11110. There is a scant description of the order on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_11110) but it does not express the significance of this order. Executive Order 11110 ordered the re-circulation of more silver certificates, among other provisions. This may sound in itself insignificant, but remember that these silver certificates were “United States Notes” that were issued by the Treasury and represented real silver. This form of money, which was essentially Lincoln’s greenbacks, could be issued by the government and spent without creating debt. Just like the Vietnam troop withdrawal this was just a first step towards fulfilling Lincoln’s dream that “The Government should create, issue, and circulate all the currency…” as we discussed earlier. This would have put the power to issue money back in the hands of the government and taken it away (at least partially) from private bankers. That should strike the average person as strange that bankers can, in any way, create or issue money. This strange privileged has been compared to putting the police department under the control of the Mafia. It took just five months after the signing of Executive Order 11110, and just one month after the signing of the first troop withdrawal from Viet Nam, for John F. Kennedy to be assassinated. Every President since has steadily increased the power of the privately owned Federal Reserve and none has said so much as a word about the reintroduction of the “greenbacks”, the United States Notes. The 150 year struggle for the central bankers not to take over has been nearly erased from the history books and no one in the media ever questions why we all walk around with money that proudly declares it was issued by a privately owned bank with the words “Federal Reserve Note”.

Step 2. We will need to decide on our product or products. Don’t worry if you have not thought of one yet, because you may change your mind as your business takes shape.

Step 3. We will need to name our business in order to refer to it in our marketing and defining our online links back to the website.

Step 4. We will need to provide marketing for the product to create awareness of its availability. This needs to be cost effective or free in order to get your business going.

Step 5. We will also need to become involved in the networks of people with their ears to the ground in terms of new developments regarding marketing online. This will ensure we keep our product in front of the consumer.

Step 6. We will need to make the purchase for our customer as convenient and easy as possible by automating our website and product system. This will be our product support system.

Our Aim: I will share with you in this e-book the research regarding an online business and any other helpful and relevant topics that you may want to search on your own.

3. Step 1 – Developing a website using a free website builder

Now you may or may not have your product in mind yet, but you will at some stage have to decide on the basic subject matter for your site. Most people will choose something they know in order to have little problem in creating the product review and marketing of the product that follows later. If you decide not to use something you’re familiar with, it is not a problem as the internet is the perfect place to research a topic.

We are going to try and do this though for as little or no cost as possible. It is going to be a great challenge, but it can be done. Read on.

The first thing that you will need to do before you even think of contacting a web-design or web-hosting company is the following:

Take a blank sheet of paper and a pencil and jot down some ideas on the type of items you will like to see on your home page (a.k.a. index page). This will give you some direction on your site map which will enable your customer to navigate their way around your website.

For example you will need to have a “contact us” section, a newsletter or articles section, other sites of interest, space for your heading and site name. Look at the site www.durban-property-searcher.co.za or that of your competitors to give you an idea of possible layout. Whilst researching on the internet you will get some great ideas from other websites in terms of interesting click options in the menu bar on the left hand side or top of the page. Type in your intended product and do a search in the search engine. See what the top 10 “page 1” ranked websites are using in their index (home) page.

By now you are probably on your second sheet of paper and have started to get a vision of what you are trying to create. Make as many notes as possible and keep the names of the sites handy that you think are similar to what you want your website to look like. This is going to give you a better understanding of your concept as you design your websites pages.

Remember to allocate a section of each page to Google advertising and possibly some advertising space in the top right corner for the companies whose products you are offering or some supplementary products to your main product. For example, if your hobby is to make moulds of tin soldiers, you may wish to have paint supplies, brushes, holders for the finished product, magnifying glasses, tweezers etc. as your additional products. You will be amazed at how many suppliers will be interested to be a part of your product marketing campaign.

If you have a site with good content to visitors, the amount of traffic you are generating through your site will be of particular interest to companies who offer products that are complimentary in nature to the products you are selling. This in itself is a revenue stream for you. You can now offer advertising space. Once you have read through the Google Analytics section explained later, you will understand how the search engines will monitor the type of traffic through your site and offer their clients advertising space in the Google Adverts section of your website pages.

This is now your second revenue stream from your website. The first source being your actual product you intend to sell. It is now clear how important it is to plan your site on paper before you go through the cost of employing the service of a web design company if you have chosen to go the more expensive route. You will however need to consider maintaining the relationship with a reputable web company as and when you need to add extra functions to your site. This may include your payment section for your products. One piece of advice that was given to me by a site analyst, was to try not to make the site look like a flea market by implementing all sorts of advertising as it may detract from the effect and reputation you desire from your customers. We have all been zapped suddenly by some sort of advert for an online casino or similar site which changes the whole experience of a site. You are able to prevent these adverts by notifying Google of the types of adverts you wish to exclude from being allowed to display on your website. This step is done when inserting the code into the website for the Google Adsense facility.

There are many free web-builder sites on the internet that will allow you to download a free program, to use to design your new website. We have chosen BlueVoda due to its offering of the free programs needed for this business as opposed to using other web builders which need you to purchase the add-ons separately. Not everybody may wish to use this method. However, the object of this business model is to do it on a budget. Remember how it was mentioned that your start up costs and virtual storefront rental will be determined by the web-hosting company you have decided to use for your business.

Should you wish to jump directly to this step to get started, you can go to the BlueVoda site which was used to design the site on which you found this e-book. Their system is a pleasure to work with for the following reasons;

Even though the monthly charge is in Dollars, the conversion still works out much cheaper than South Africa and is irrelevant as the technical support is always via internet anyway, as well as there being no charge for the CMS or Control Management System which you will need to upload new content to your website and also administer any changes you may wish to make to your site. Most South African web hosting companies will not provide this and it is costly to acquire locally. On BlueVoda it is free.

They also send regular emails notifying you of functions you may wish to add to your site.

Last but not least are the video tutorials which give you free step by step video tutorial instruction throughout the site building process which is also free.

An in depth amount of researching was carried out in order to source the easiest method for anyone to do this with little or no knowledge of computers and we hope you have fun in testing different options.

Spend some time gong through their templates until you find one that works well for your intended product or design one from scratch. Please remember to make your site as easy to navigate as possible and get an unbiased opinion from a friend or family member if your colour choices are easy on the eyes to read. This could be the make or break of your site. Blue is always an easy colour on the eyes to read. Just see how your toolbar looks above.

4. Step 2 – Choosing your Product :

The greatest thing about back end products is that you always have a greater profit margin. It happens that as mentioned above, your customers are now more confident in your delivery that your back end products are more successful than your front end product.

So now you have a potential product and a website in progress. A helpful time saver is to copy your heading and menu bars and paste it to each new page you design as you go along so that you only need to do your home page and then when complete you are pasting with all the page-links and characteristics already intact. I learnt the hard way.

5. Step 3 - Giving your business a name

Securing a domain name

There are many websites which enable you to reserve and purchase domain names. Some consideration will need to be put to the type of domain name that you choose as some domains are specific to certain types of industries similar to the need for a government website to end in a .gov.za. or an organization to end in a .org.za …..etc.

As mentioned previously, where we prefer to keep the services of an overseas hosting facility as they are able to offer better packages to suit your website function and have larger servers, the opposite is applicable to your domain name.

Although some web-hosting companies do offer a free domain name, it is a lot easier to renew your web domain annually from a local domain registrar and to receive post locally. The complications arrive if and when you may decide to change hosting companies, as it is difficult to show ownership of the domain name when all the important information is held by an overseas company and you need to retrieve hard copies of important documents when it is a few years down the line. For this reason, it also makes decisions easier when you don’t leave the entire control in the hands of an overseas supplier of services. Most local domain registrars will try and convince you to host with them, but they just cannot compete with the offering of the overseas servers’ bandwidth. Maybe in the future this will change for South Africans.

It may be of consideration at this point to remember that a name that has multiple words should be split using a hyphen as it is often unreadable to a user who does not already know your product. We are going to be setting up your business to cater for the local market and as such would like to stay away from the overseas based Dollar and Pound markets for now. We will briefly discuss Clickbank as an overseas marketplace to source products, purely for information purposes. The platform has numerous plug in products available for free in cyberspace and a simple search will reveal these plug-ins which allow customization of the function and appearance thereof.

Search engines

Please remember that whilst Google has over 200 million users on any given day, this is not the only search engine which is being used throughout South Africa and the rest of the world.

For this reason it is wise to submit your website to as many search engines as possible in order to increase your traffic analytics to your site. Think Yahoo, MSN and so forth. The list is endless. Just Google Search engines and see what comes up. But remember that there are more pages than the first 10 results and you may want to go through them at your own pace. This is an ongoing process and you cannot be expected to do everything in one day. After all, this e-book took three months to put together.

Newspaper publications and other means of advertising

Gumtree. What can I say? Most South Africans have heard of Gumtree and Junkmail. If you have not heard of the free advertising newspaper publication or classifieds website, you are missing out on a load of free advertising. A recent advertisement that was placed on Gumtree netted a response of 250 people in the first hour. These were the replies by email, nevermind how many times the advert was viewed.

You don’t need to be extravagant with your advertising budget to generate interest in your products.

I am honestly amazed at how few cars have their website address across their rear window or rear bumper in a world that’s crying recession. We are going to think out of the box in this business plan.

Clickbank

Clickbank was possibly one of the first and most popular marketplaces for affiliate marketers to use on a regular basis to obtain products for their Google Ads campaigns. It was found however, that during the compilation of this e-book, the majority if not all of the products offered on Clickbank are for the overseas market. By this statement we mean that as mentioned earlier, it is extremely difficult as a South African to attempt to sell a product on a local website that is paid for in Dollars. We strongly recommended Offerforge and TrafficSynergy for this reason and hope that in the immediate future more local product members join up and understand the concept of utilizing affiliate marketers in this country. We also believe that Cape Town based company Adgator is helpful in being able to monetize your blog. Perhaps the introduction of an undersea cable system due to improve bandwidth and internet accessibility in South Africa in July 2009 is the key to this.

If you have decided to use a .com website address as opposed to a .co.za website address, then Clickbank might appeal to you as you are able to use a .com address a lot easier in the international marketplace. The product you have chosen may be easily accepted by international consumers and as such it may make no difference if your secondary products are sold in Dollars.

If you are interested in the affiliate type of marketing, then a simple entry of your desired product followed by the words “affiliate program” or “associate program” will reveal companies that offer affiliate marketers the opportunity to market their products.

Some additional information on using Google Adwords for Affiliate marketing

Google Adwords are the short 4 line advertisements as mentioned earlier which you may wish to allow Google to display on your website for an additional revenue stream. Some of these adverts are placed by internet affiliate marketers attempting to direct traffic to a site where a product is sold. The affiliate marketer is paid a commission for each sale that the owner of the product makes. This is the other side of the coin to Google Adsense.

As this is a paid service which is offered by Google, there may be a profit margin in it if the affiliate marketer is able to sell a product for more than it costs to display the advert somewhere on the internet.

In the same way that a searcher uses keywords to find the relevant pages for their search in the search engine, the affiliate marketer will pay a certain amount to have their advert displayed on the side of the page for that particular set of keywords or a website allowing Google Adsense.

This method is sometimes enough to generate a substantial income, but does carry some risk in that a sale is not always guaranteed every time somebody clicks on your advert and the costs of running multiple advertising campaigns can quickly add up.

The Google Adwords service works on a bidding system whereby the affiliate marketer will bid a certain number of cents and sometimes Rands for highly successful keywords, for each time that someone clicks on their advert.

This product review behaves like multiple sales pages all rolled into one on a single review page. Your customers could be able to rate or rank your choices of a selection of products. The interesting thing is that all the products sell, just some better than others. It’s all good for your business. This allows you to sell similar products without being biased to your customers. If they wish to obtain a certain brand name, they can. They key is that they obtain their products from you and your business.

If you are using affiliate programs for your secondary products, make sure to carry out your research on the products home pages or even purchase and test them before hand to enable you to write honestly about them.

If you set up one review page on your website a week and of the 7-10 products on that review page even one of the products is effective and sells, you get a passive income of let’s say R500 per month and you do this for a year, by the end of year 1 you will have 52 review pages on your website with say an average of R500 per month from each review page, you now have a passive income of R26 000 from 52 review pages per month and climbing. Once you have the formula, you merely plug in and play the products.

You will recall that it is not merely the number of products you have though, but the act of creating the marketing support for those review pages by talking about them in your articles.

Search engine optimization

There are many schools of thought on what makes for good search engine optimization. This term has and still is much debated in various forums and Blogs on the internet. Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO as it is more commonly known, refers to the ability for the search engines to find your website and provide it in the first page of a search for your clients to be able to find you easily if their keyword search describes your product.

Search engines allocate a page rank to your website as and how it determines the relevance of your content and products to be for those specific keywords. This means that for a specific set of keywords, your website may appear on page 1 and for a different set of keywords, your website may be found on page 100. This has given rise to a culture of trying to ensure that your website is optimized to appear at the top or on page 1 of all search keywords relating to your product or content.

Once you have read the section on Google Analytics you will have an understanding of page ranking with search engines. The one school of thought relating to optimization is to flood your site with backlinks to other websites in order to boost the amount of content that you are able to offer or link to in order to assume huge amounts of traffic through your site.

I feel that this is flawed in that it detracts from the impression you will be creating for you customer base as a website. The customer wants to know that it is easy to navigate and find the suitable subject related content for which they might be searching without being directed to another site where your product can be found. The traffic is not the only criteria by which a website is ranked and much importance is placed on the subject content.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is the means by which Google is able to monitor the amount and type of traffic which reaches your website. Originally it was an internet company which offered this service for a small fee to website owners in order to ascertain where their customer base was originating from and what type of customers they were. This tool was eventually bought by Google and is now offered as a free service in order to improve their offering as a search engine.

Once your website is place on the World Wide Web, it is imperative that you sign up for this free service as it is able to provide you with a tremendous amount of helpful and useful information regarding your customer base and visitors to your site. This is the basis for analysis which gives you your page ranking and inadvertently your profit margins.

The system works by a code which Google provides to you on signup which is implemented into each page on your website. This is an invisible code which is used on a daily basis by the Spiders and Searchbots ( Googles’ analysis programs) which invariably identify any changes in your website. This may be the IP addresses of your visitors computers needed to determine what type of Adsense to use for their geographical location. It may also determine what pages are most visited which is useful for your marketing strategy improvement. You will also want the Search engine to know immediately of any new content which you have placed on your website. Imagine if at the same time a search engine user is typing in their keywords, you have just uploaded a new product catalogue which has the product which they are searching for, you would want them to know about it. It’s genius. I love it and it’s free to all website owners.

Google adwords

If you were to search for an item or subject matter on Google for example, you will notice a shaded area at the top of the search results. There are usually only three websites listed for each page of search results. These website owners are making use of a tool offered by Google which provides a bidding system for each of the keyword (search words) that you have typed into the search bar in order to arrive at the resultant website list. The tool is called Google Adwords and is available to anybody who wishes to pay per word that users may use to find their product. Over time this can build awareness for your website, but can be a costly exercise if no sales are made to counteract the cost of Adwords advertising campaigns. The entry level is a minimum of a R500 budget allocation upfront and R50 activation cost.

Google adsense

Using the same example as used in the Google Adwords search, you will note that some advertisements appear in the right hand side of your screen. These are Google Adsense campaigns and work on a similar bidding system for the keywords that someone may use to search for a product or subject matter. These advertisements are however only billed to the advertiser on a pay per click system which means that only once someone clicks on the relevant four line advert which directs the searcher to their website, will Google bill the advertiser for that searcher to click through. This method requires constant monitoring in order to maintain the advert on the first page by ensuring bids for each keyword is in the top four bids. Some advertisers will purposefully try to be the forth or fifth advertiser as this is a persons natural line of site to be searching in the middle of the page.

9. Step 6: Support systems

In order to be successful in business, it is imperative that as you grow your business, you start to implement systems which will improve, if not maintain, your levels of service and quality to your customers. This will lead to automation of your website activities and client correspondence by using an auto-responder which allows you to pre-write your email responses to an action that takes place, e.g. an order for your product.

If for example you are spending time in a banking hall queue unnecessarily, you may decide to implement internet banking in order to carry out your business at home. Now if you have thousands of clients in your database, you can not possibly spend the time keeping them individually informed.

We will need to create a page for this using a page creator asking for their name and primary email address.

In order to get your clients to give this information freely as some people are scared of receiving large amounts of spam, you may want to provide some information in exchange for this, maybe a free report, a software program, a discount coupon for your products etc.

After your first email, you need to try and gauge at what stage your subscribers or customers will be in your product offering. This will be helpful to them when they open their most recent email to find some more useful information.
